Laur and Cor’s Big Adventure

Okay Hooman. You had said last time that we may be MOVING? WHY? I like it here!

Well, Cor, first of all, we aren’t moving permanently. Just for a little while.

WHERE?

Wisconsin.

Never heard of it, Hooman. I like it here.

So do I, and don’t worry–we’ll come back in a few weeks.

Wisconsin is a place I lived before I got you.

You were alive before you got me?

…yes.

But that’s not possible! Your world revolves around me! …doesn’t it?

…not quite.

What?!

…why are we going, Hooman?

Because I’m going to go help homeschool my cousin.

What’s that?

You know how we do training at home?

Yeah, of course. Where else would we do it?

You know how we also do it in public on ‘ventures and outings?

Yes, Hooman! Those are fun!

I know.

Most hoomans do their training somewhere else. They drive there in the mornings, train, and then come back home.

Homeschooling is when you do the training at home.

Oh. Isnt that just the easier way to do it?

Not for everyone.

But, with everything going on–

Like the CORona?

Yes. The Coronavirus.

Because of that, many people are starting to homeschool. A lot of them had never considered this kind of training before and don’t know how to do it.

What about ‘Manda? She’s smart!

Yes… she is. But there’s this principle–learning from those with fruit on the tree. Normally people specialize in a few particular things and get help from those who specialize in things they don’t.

Amanda specializes in dog training and she’s extremely good at it. I don’t know if she’s ever homeschooled children before.

So you’re going to be the ‘Manda of homeschooling?

…something like that.

But why Wisconsin? I like it HERE.

I get the feeling you’ll like it there, too.

Really?

Yes. There will be a bunch of new smells,

*tail wags*

new people,

*tail wags faster*

and we’ll have a ton more ‘ventures.

*tail whips around like a fan*

REALLY?

Oh, yes.

When do we go?

What do I do to get us there?

Why can’t we go NOW?

We leave tomorrow, actually.

That’s too long, Hooman! I don’t know if I can wait that long!

Does it help to know we’ve already been getting ready?

Really?

Yup. Remember what we did two nights ago?

….

When we got help plucking your ear hair?

Oh, yeah! Everything’s so much louder, now!

I believe it. You practically had a forest in there.

That hurt, Hooman. Why did you have to do that?

Because poodle hair grows fast, and it grows everywhere. If I don’t pluck it, you could get an infection and it’ll definitely be harder to hear.

It’s like when I wash and cut your hair.

Which you did yesterday.

Or take you to get a check-up.

Which you did today!

I don’t like any of that.

I know, puppy.

I don’t like hurting you, but all of that is so that you stay healthy and safe.

…I’m not sure I believe you.

…but you do feed me. And pet me. And give me treats.

I know you don’t like it, and I’m sorry. But there are times we all get to do things we don’t want to.

Like what?

Honestly? I don’t exactly love taking walks in the mornings.

WHAT?!

Yeah. But my doctor says they’re good for me, and I’d rather be healthy than enjoying every second of my day, so I’ve learned to like it.

I don’t think that’ll work with getting groomed or poked.

Maybe not, but it gets done faster when you just let me do it.

…fine.

Will you have to do that in Wisconsin?

Yes. Sorry.

*huffs*

But you PROMISE there’ll be new smells and people?

One hundred percent. One of the places we’re staying is in the woods, so… that’ll be fun.

What’s a woods?

You’ll see when we get there–just wait until you see your first squirrel or chipmunk. I hope I can get that on video. 🙂

When do we go?

Tomorrow morning. A few hours before our normal walk.

Why can’t we go now?

Hooman is still packing.

Well, then hurry up! Let’s go do that, Hooman! Right now!

Okay, okay, pushy.

I just need to tell the readers one more thing.

What?

💜You were not born to fail💜

Woof!

Lauryn

And Cor!

P.S. Come back two days from now for a breakdown of travelling cross-country with an eight-month-old puppy like I broke down the day I got him. 🙂
